Alan became interested in photography at an early age, first taking photographs with his Mother’s Brownie box camera, and later, with his Father’s Argus 35mm camera. For years, Alan photographed primarily in the Midwestern United States. Upon graduation from high school, he purchased his first camera he could call his own, a Pentax KX 35mm SLR.

Alan moved to Alaska in 1991, where he has lived ever since. Alan states “Alaska is a photographer’s paradise; there is always something beautiful to photograph in this great state”.

Alan is one of the longest serving ASONP board members, serving for over 26 years. Alan was newsletter editor for nearly six years, and has served as the organization’s webmaster since 2003.
