Crafting a great composition doesn’t start with the rule of thirds or leading lines or color, it starts with knowing the purpose of your photograph. There’s a spectrum of answers – from fine art to photo stories – and knowing your purpose helps you make the best composition for the moment. In this talk, I’ll share ideas to help you identify your purpose (which can change from photo to photo), provide helpful considerations for each different purpose, and make photographing more fun! It can be frustrating when you don’t get the shot you envisioned, but the tips and perspectives I’ll share can help you get closer and closer to capturing the moments you’ll love.
